Goofy vs regular

Goofy vs regular

When it comes to riding a skimboard, the terms "Goofy" and "Regular" refer to the rider's stance, the same way they're used in skateboarding, snowboarding and surfing.

  • Regular Stance: In a regular stance, the rider stands with their left foot forward, and their right foot back on the board. This means that when they throw the skimboard and hop onto it, they lead with their left foot.

  • Goofy Stance: Conversely, in a goofy stance, the rider stands with their right foot forward, and their left foot back on the board. This means that when they throw the skimboard and hop onto it, they lead with their right foot.

Whether someone rides regular or goofy depends on their natural preference and what feels most comfortable to them. It's similar to being left-handed or right-handed; there's no right or wrong way to do it, it just depends on the individual's preference and what feels most natural for them.

If you are struggling to figure out which stance feels best try the push test. The push test is when you stand straight up with your legs locked and have someone gently push you from behind. Whichever leg moves first to catch you and regain your balance is likely your lead foot on the board. If your left foot steps out you are most likely a regular stance rider and vice versa for your right foot. If all else fails have your dominant foot at the back of the skimboard.
